Pop 4 Diabetes is a non-profit fundraising organisation that works hard to raise funds for continuing research into finding a cure for type1 Diabetes.
Beneficiaries of our work have included global charity JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) and UK charity Diabetes UK. This year we will be adding the diabetes research department at Bournemouth Hospital to our list of beneficiaries. Currently the main drive for Pop 4 Diabetes is to raise funds for JDRF who are pioneering research in to a cure for type 1 Diabetes.
Pop4Diabetes was started by Iris Board of Poole, Dorset after her son Shane was diagnosed with type1 Diabetes at the age of 11. Type 1 Diabetes is also known as juvenile Diabetes.
Since 2007 the main event in the Pop4Diabetes calendar has been the 'Pop4Diabetes Charity Dinner' which started at the Haven Hotel on Sandbanks. Due to the success and growth of the event the Charity Dinner had to be moved to a larger venue and in recent years the event has been held in the De Vere suite at the Royal Bath hotel in Bournemouth.
Since the first Pop4Diabetes Charity Dinner in 2007, Pop4Diabetes has been very grateful for the support from celebrities such as Paul Daniels, Steve Brookstein and popular acts from talents shows 'Britain's Got Talent' and 'X-Factor' and Cbeebies star Chris Jarvis. Other supporters have included stars from Hollyoaks Eastenders and Coronation Street. Connie Talbot, Hollie steel, 2 Grand, Cheeky girls, Steve Norman from Spandau Ballet and Shelley Preston from Bucks Fizz.
